LOMA KEEL

FINAL BOARD PRICE WILL VARY
Originating from the Sunset Cliffs reef breaks along the Point Loma region of San Diego, the classic ‘Keel Fin Fish’ was born. Traditionally designed by a local kneeboarder in the 70s, ‘The Fish’ quickly gained popularity amongst standup surfers and is one of the most revolutionary surfboard designs to date.
Our version of The Fish has just the right amount of modern performance design features sprinkled in while still honouring the traditional shape.
One of the most common issues people had with the originals was the uncontrollability and reckless speed they carry. This was mainly due to the very straight, chunky rail line and the parallel, upright keel fins. To combat these issues, we’ve added some tweaks to the outline, including a slight hip right right around the back foot, progressive adjustments to rail line rocker and concave.
The break in the outline unlocks the performance without sacrificing the classic speed the fish is so famous for. Once you find the sweet spot on these boards, you can push them seriously hard in a wide range of conditions. And can be surfed backhand extremely well which contradicts the limitations of the traditional fish. Definitely not strictly a groveller, in fact these light up when there’s a bit of wave to work with.
Recommended to size them short, wide and thin for the best combo of speed and control.
For size reference: Andy’s HP shortboard is 6’1” x 19” x 2 1/2” and his Loma keel would sit at 5’4” x 20 3/4” x 2 3/8”.
